Too Nice to Slice loves being part of special events in the community. We are constantly receiving requests for cake donations. As much as we’d love to be a part of every cause it is difficult for us to accommodate all of these requests.
Slices for a Cause is a monthly feature. Each month we will randomly draw from all eligible applications.
If you are hosting a charitable or not for profit event and would like to be considered for a cake donation please contact us for an application. Applications must be received by the first of the month prior to the event. Event coordinators will be notified by the 14th of the month prior to the event if their event has been selected.
Grand River Hospitail unveiled its new intensive care unit this past December and we were honoured to be asked to be part of it. Adding six new beds and quadrupling their amount of space the unit now allows staff improved access to the patients.
We had fun treating the staff and guests to cupcakes in their Grand River Hospital colours.
For more information on their beautiful new addition be sure to check out their website http://www.grandriverhospital.on.ca/patient/icu.cfm
In November I was asked by a very close friend of mine to do a cake for a cause that is very near and dear to her heart. A friend of hers named Tamarra was suffering from a very aggresive form of cancer. Tamarra’s friends and family were joining together to help raise funds for a Tamarra’s holistic treatments.
Tamarra was diagnoised at 17 years old and passed away days before the fundraiser and just shy of her 19th birthday. Tamarra did not get to see this event or cake in her honour. But I’m told the fundraiser was very successful and a celebration of her life. All funds raised were donated to a foundation in her name called Tamarra’s Honour . To find out more about the organization and the beautiful young woman who it was named for please check out their website http://tamarrashonour.com/
Welcome to our first posting for Slices for a Cause. Once a month we will feature great local causes and the fun cakes we did for their special events.
Our first cake was for an event back in October. One of my students, Donna, appproached me about doing a cake for the K-W branch of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) this is a non-profit organization managed by a volunteer council. Their mission is to encourage and provide the highest calibre of music education possible and to promote high standards of music in our communities. The event was held on Oct. 30, 2010 and was a Hallowe’en recital, held at the Waterloo Community Arts Centre. It allowed music students to dress up in fun costumes and have the opportunity to gain experience in performing, thereby building confidence and sharing their music with others. Donna says the cake was a complete surprise and a very “sweet” way to end the event.
It was extremely enjoyable to do a cake knowing I could just have fun with the Halloween theme. Being as it was a treat for a kids party I decided to design it around what they love most about Halloween… the CANDY!! I started with a tipped out bag of candy featuring some of my favourite treats, topped that with a GIANT piece of candy corn and finished it all off with a yummy caramel apple (inspired by the talented Andrea Sullivan).
